What is the most cost effective intervention to develop a nation?
A recent study showed having as few as 20 books in the home is the leading indicator for children achieving higher levels of education. With this in mind the SABDC celebrated World Book Day on the 23rd of April by handing over 1 700 books to Project Literacy. Six hundred children and 250 adults from Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga experienced the joy of taking their own book home.
We will continue to spread the joy that comes through the ownership of books with our #BUYABOOK campaign during National Book Week (NBW) this year where members of the public will be encouraged to buy selected titles from leading book retailers. Books donated during this campaign will also go to Project Literacy and other NBW partners who will place them in the hands of children, adults and youth that don’t have any.
