The South African Book Development Council (SABDC) has worked tirelessly to bring books to all South Africans this September.
The #BUYABOOK campaign kicks off today on 30 August, when books become available from Takealot and in all Exclusive Books and Bargain Books stores. Look out for our awesome selection of locally published books − priced from R20 only − and also for our donation bins; and offer books to children, young people and adults who do not have any leisure-reading of their own.
National Book Week (NBW) runs from 4 to 10 September and has become the biggest book intervention in the history of South Africa. Its talented and passionate ambassadors will be accompanying Funda Bala, NBW’s mascot, all over South Africa, in order to share the message of the wonders of reading with far-flung communities.
NBW will culminate in the South African Book Fair (SABF), taking place from 8 to 10 September in the Newtown Precinct in Johannesburg.
The SABF’s exhibition spaces at Museum Africa this September will showcase associations, educational publishers, general trade publishers, booksellers, scholarly presses, libraries and ancillary services. The Enterprise Development Programme will offer a platform for some 65 SMME practitioners to participate in the Fair.
The Business-to-business Programme has been curated to contribute towards a united publishing and bookselling industry in South Africa, and to ensure that diversity is nurtured.
Over 110 authors will participate in 71 events covering a wide range of topics on our three-day Literary Programme , during which African philosophers and writers will be debating the state of the world, Africa and South Africa − and where we find ourselves in relation to justice and equality.
