The South African Book Development Council (SABDC), in association with the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing (FP&M) Seta, extends a heartfelt thank you to all publishers, booksellers and industry associates who participated in showcasing the book industry through the South African Book Fair 2017 Exhibitions. Thank you for your role in presenting the industry and bringing it closer to ordinary South Africans.

To our talented African authors and poets: your intellects, insights and open discussions have reached deep into the hearts and minds of those who attended the Literary Programme.

SA Book Fair 2017 was the worthy culmination of the SABDC’s National Book Week campaign, which, in association with the Department of Arts and Culture, travelled to all nine provinces in South Africa in the first week of September. Now in its eighth year, the campaign saw the country reading and engaging with books as never before.

At the same time, the Fair laid the foundation for a shift in making the book, in its many forms, more relevant to the country. The seed of change has been sown. It lies, germinating in the soil, ready to sprout anew in 2018. The South African book industry is able to move forward, having presented itself to – and learned from – the diverse and representative audiences who attended the Fair.

The SABDC exists to see men, women and children gain greater access to books – and to more meaningful books every year – as we South Africans take #OURSTORIES to the world. We look forward to our continued engagement with our current and new audiences as we become part of increasing access to books on our continent.
